OUR HISTORY
Generations of warm Sicilian hospitality
La Scibina is today an elegant boutique Hotel tastefully run by an all-female family team made up of Anna and her two daughters Raffaela and Elena, but the place has a fascinating history. Once upon a time, it was used to store almonds, for which the island has been renowned for centuries, with the “Sicily” variety comprising a range of cultivars, found in particular in the provinces of Siracusa, Ragusa and Agrigento. In the early 1950s, the building was used as a holiday home, before gaining a new lease of life in the 2000s, driven by the vision of the owners, who lovingly turned this place filled with happy memories into a 4-star hotel complex close to the beautiful seafront of Marina di Ragusa.
The attentive renovation and repurposing work carried out on the complex has converted the original almond warehouse and the farmhouse into a functional, elegant, modern tourist facility, equipped with all the amenities and services the discerning contemporary guest expects, while maintaining the Sicilian essence of a home alive with memories.
A number of different professional figures worked on the project, including the architects Bruno Cosentini and Fabio Triberi and the engineers Giuseppe Cicero and Silvana Battaglia, as well as the Krete ceramics workshop. Each room of the seven apartments is embellished with different key images of the island, created by a number of Sicilian artists together with the Cargo collective, coordinated by the designers of Copystudio Carlo Scribano and the architects of Studio Gum in Ragusa, Valentina Giampiccolo and Giuseppe Minaldi.
